I’m Claire and I have been involved in counselling since 2007.  In that time I have helped a wide range of clients with issues such as depression, anxiety, stress, bereavement, self harm, suicidal feelings, anger, family problems, relationship issues, domestic abuse, sexual abuse and sexuality.  My experience ranges across voluntary and private sectors and includes both long and short term counselling.

I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).  My professional qualifications include, BSc in Therapeutic Counselling and Diploma in The Theory and Practice of Counselling and I am committed to my ongoing personal and professional development.

My approach to counselling is primarily Person-Centred, however, knowledge gained through further training, including humanistic, psychodynamic, C.B.T. and group therapies, enables me to support an integrated relationship focussed on the individual client’s needs and expectations.

From receiving counselling myself I know how difficult it is to approach a counsellor and understand much of the anxiety that goes along with meeting for the first time. I am mindful of this and try as much as possible to put my clients at ease during the session.

I am empathic, understanding and genuine and given the right environment I will facilitate you to explore your experiences to help you gain a greater understanding of your issues and concerns, which may lead to increased clarity and the identification of choices and possibilities.   I am not critical or judgemental but aim to offer support as we explore together whatever you wish to bring to counselling. I will work with you to explore your individual needs and requirements, at your own pace.

There are times in life when we all need extra support. It is often easier for us to talk about life issues with someone who is completely impartial, who will maintain our confidentiality and is accustomed to hearing about people's wide ranging experiences.   I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to tell your story, to explore your thoughts, feelings and behaviours and to find ways to move to a more fulfilling life.

I truly believe that counselling provides an opportunity for clients to progress towards a more satisfying way of life. It provides you with the opportunity to find your own solutions to personal emotional problems.
